Side issue: whenever you click on something that isn't a knob or cable the synth does a screen redraw.īurningbusch, just because the slider is there on the screen doesn t mean that it is going to behave as a hardwar ARP 2600 will. It just sounds like everything is muffled in comparison.Ĭan someone with a real 2600 or has worked extensively with them verify that this is proper operation for the 2600 filter? This is why this thing isn't stacking up sonically to my other software/hardware synths. A wide open filter should sound like no filter at all, correct? If I patch the sawtooth directly into the VCA it sounds fine. When I send a sawtooth through the filter and open it up fully (resonance min) it still sounds filtered which doesn't seem right to me at all. I've discovered what is bugging me about this emulation. I can get that out of my Omega 8 with the ARP 2600 filter. Where are you getting that from? ARPs are legendary for creating huge bass sounds-very solid, in-your-face sound. Well, to be fair, Arp synths have always been lighter and less beefy sounding than Moogs, but it's the same way with the CS80V, and would be with an Oberheim 8 Voice model. The Arturia Minimoog has so much more balls than this thing. I see that Arturia is including the original ARP sequencer. I see that they're planning a TDM version which I might try given that it won't use up any CPU. NI, Arturia and others have been developing and improving their products for years. I believe this is the developer's first soft synth and this is one very aggressive project. It has been fairly stable but I did get one instance where I selected a preset and got ear ripping, full blast noise. Most soft synths do this dynamically but with the TimeWarp it instantly gobbles up more CPU as you add voices. One thing I dislike is that when you add voices, CPU utilization goes up accordingly. On a DP800 Quicksilver, three voices uses up nearly all CPU. Not with standing my deep respect for 2600 artists like Zawinul, if this is what a 2600 sounds like then I know why I've always been a Moog guy. I've been playing with the TimeWarp demo and have been pretty underwhelmed by it.
